B'roque and Oraneth's weyr
You walk into the next weyr, and are surprised to hear a voice in the dragon chamber. Walking into the entrance you see a young man standing next to a full-grown brown dragon. He doesn't notice you at first, but the brown does. He sends a draconic smile in your direction, then croons a greeting.
The boy turns when the brown looks at you, and you study him for a moment. He has blondish white hair, cut close to his head but not close enough to hide the fact that it curls delicately. He has round, curious amber eyes and a large smile. He's slightly pudgey in the midsection, but looks very strong to compensate."Well, Oraneth. It looks like we've got ourselves a visitor!" The dragon rumbles his agreement, settling back to study you.
The young man walks over to you with a broad smile, offering his hand which you take in a friendly Pernese greeting. "Heyla! My name's B'roque, and this is brown Oraneth." Oraneth settles back, watching the two of you as you disappear with B'roque into the living quarters. It's sparingly furnished, as most of the weyrs seem to be. He sits down at a small table, where a basket of redfruit sits. He waves a hand to the seat across from him, and you take it happily.
"Like I said, my name is B'roque. Most people, however, call me Que. Would you like something to eat?" He offers you a plump redfruit, but feeling your stomach already filled to the brim thanks to the others in the Weyr, you decline. He grins and takes a bite of it himself, and you note that it would probably help if he didn't eat it either since he didn't look in the best of shape.
B'roque laughs at your comment, grinning. "It happens when you grow up as two cooks as your parents. They wanted me to follow in their steps, but I'm afraid I didn't have the knack for it. I burn everything, and that's not even mentioning what else can happen to anything I try to make." He sighs dramatically, but grins at you. "So anyway, I came to the Weyr from Asura Hold. I didn't have any of the skills to become a crafter, and as low down as I am in any bloodline I'll never make a good Holder or cotholder. So dragonriding was my last resort."
He leans back, still eating the redfruit between sentances. His chair teeters on it's back two legs as he talks. "I didn't mind leaving though. My father didn't pay much attention to me, and my mother was worse than a runner when it came to nagging. I didn't have the talents to follow in their footsteps, so they weren't to sad to see me go." Despite the subject, Que still grins at you across the table. A blue firelizard lands on the table in front of you, and begins to eat a redfruit. A green lands beside him and does the same. B'roque continues the conversation as if he hadn't even noticed them.
"The only real talents I had was my determination and endurability. I could churn butter for hours on end, but when it came to doing anything else with it I couldn't get anything right. But from what I heard, those two traits were good for a dragonrider. I stood at a small Hatching from Dawnsister's Weyr. Imagine my surprise when there was seventeen candidates and I was one of the nine to Impress. Oraneth is so wonderful."
He let his gaze wander to the dragon chamber, and then they snapped back to you. He seems to only now notice the firelizards, and he smiles. "The green is Pilla, and the blue is Enroir. They're great, I Impressed them back at the Hold." Waving his hand over the table, he made the two firelizards jump into the air. They landed a few moments later, Enroir on his shoulder and the green on the bed in the corner.
"Well, I don't have much more to say. If you stay around any longer you'll probably get bored with this little brownrider." He laughs to himself as well as to you. He is by no means little, and he stands rather tall before you. He walks you out of the weyr, eating a yellowish fruit. "While I was in weyrling training J'simo made me go on a diet, so I'm catching up on everything I missed now that I've graduated." He grins at you, then waves as you start to walk off.
He pauses by Oraneth's hollow, smiling. Shaking his head at some silly thought, he takes another bite of the fruit and wanders back into his living chamber.
