A Song For Auraniath
(My Own)
I hear the dragons begin to hum.
I feel the tension fill the air.
The sound of anxious murmurs fills the Grounds.
The heat from the Sands are great,
Because it's me that's standing there.
Finally a crack is heard.
It seems forever until a triumphant cry
sounds out.
Then everything happens at once.
Eggs shatter, parents cheer, and the sounds of
hearts breaking is almost audible.
Then there's another silence, this one more
expectant.
I hear murmurs of a gold egg and wonder what the
girls on the sands must be thinking,
I must be thinking the same thing.
Through gasps and sighs I hear a cry break the
silence, and I know their wait is over,
Because the cry is my own.
They say this is the happiest moment and most
joyous time in a dragonrider's life.
I can not see their happy faces.
I can only feel their joyous tears,
Because they, too,
Are my own.
