"Alright, ready?" came the query as the two girls sat at the table, facing off against each other. The bigger of the two was a tall, slin as a rod and almost sickeningly so. She'd never out-grown her famine-like look, though it never seemed to bother her as much of others. Lack of a figure was not something she fussed over.
"When am I not?" Casibi shot back, getting a laugh from the group of drudges around them as she grinned slyly at her old friend.
Demire lifted her chin in the air with mock indignance, then lowered it as an impish grin spread across her face. Dark brown eyes sparkled with the suspense of the moment. "Alright, call it Aeonid," she said to one of the young drudges.
"Alrighty," Aeonid said with a big smile on her face as she walked over to the small table and crouched down beside it. "On your mark... get set... now!"
The pair, Demire and Casibi, were cheered on as they picked up their first glasses, then threw the liquor in their mouths and swallowed. They were cheered on for a few good minutes, the word 'Go! Go! Go! Go!' echoing in their ears as they laughing tried to drain shot after shot.
The cheers died off abruptly, and a shattering glass was heard as Casibi froze and it slipped from her hand. She quickly swallowed the drink she had in her mouth, her expression taking on a guilty, and somewhat fearful, look.
Demire finished her shot, then turned to see what could've made her friends act in such a manner. She let out a sigh, one of those sounds that means that she just wanted to scream 'Oh, brother...', but knew better than to do so.
"What is it, L'rari?" she asked irritably, watching him, the sparkle of mischief remaining in her eyes.
The tall Weyrleader was standing in the doorway, an angry expression on his face that was enough to make any dragonrider under his command wince. All of them but Demire. "Come with me, now," and he added the last word forcefully.
Demire sighed dramatically, standing up and nodding her head to her friends with a silly salute. "Well, farewell my friends. If you don't find me hanging over the Weyr Lake in the morning I'll see you at breakfast," and she turned her grin on Casibi as she backed towards the door. "And *you* owe me a rematch."
This earned her a laugh from the group even as L'rari's arm reappeared, grabbed her, and pulled her out the door with a lop-sided grin on her face.

"Oh lay off, L'rari. Aren't dragonriders allowed to have some fun in their life?" she asked irritably, leaning back against the stone wall of her own weyr and glaring up at him, thin arms crossed under her small chest.
"Going off to have a drinking binge with drudges is hardly what a dragonrider should do, let alone a Jr. weyrwoman like yourself," he snapped, his arms crossed as well, and about even with her head in fact.
"Oh... so if I was out drinking with other dragonriders it'd be alright?" she asked, a pleasant smile on her face though her voice dripped sardonically.
L'rari simply leveled his gaze on her, staring into her dark brown eyes. "You know your place here, and I expect you to act like the weyrwoman you are."
Demire gave a frustrated growl, then sat down on the couch next to the know awake Likenath. "If you hadn't noticed, L'rari, I'm in a league of my own. A drudge turned dragonrider to a white gold dragon, of which nobody in this Weyr has ever seen before. Now, I think I deserve some leeway," she stated blandly, leaning back against the wall and reaching up a hand to rub Likenath's eye ridges.

"I was washing clothes for people like you while you were off running the Weyr. You expect me to change just because I Impressed? Likenath liked me the way I was, so why don't you follow her example?" she added with a pleasant smile, the kind of one that just screamed for him to get ruffled at her.
But he knew she had absolutely no problem with going to Kayan with her problems. L'rari had always voiced his unhappiness at the way she acted, and she'd taken it up with the Weyrwoman before, and L'rari was the one reprimanded.
The Weyrleader glared at her for another moment, then turned and left.
