Illaea's Impression
Illaea shifted her feet back and forth on the sands. Her feet were calloused from all the times she's stood on these sharding hot sands. Now it was more habit, a tradition that she couldn't break. The eggs were rocking back and forth at an almost dizzying pace.
Then they started cracking left and right. The first dragon Illaea could get her eyes on that hadn't Impressed yet was a little green. The green creeled unhappily, her eyes roaming the female Candidate. Illaea held her breath. Could this tiny creature be looking for me? Could this wait be over now?
The green made her choice, and it wasn't Illaea. The girl sighed, the sting of rejection softened by her Turn and-a-half on the Sands already. She searched the broken eggs with yearning, seeing even more shatter and dragons emerge for their lifemates.
Another green Hatched. She creeled hungrily at the girls, and Illaea was one of them to rush forward and try to comfort the dear. The dragon hissed at the girls, swinging one of her tiny clawed arms at them. Finally, when they had all backed away, Illaea included, she stood up properly and surveyed the females before her. Finally, she made her choice and walked forward primly to her new lifemate.
Illaea frowned once more and took a step back from the group of girls still eagerly eyeing the Sands. She yelped as she stepped on a shard of a broken shell. Clutching her foot, she sat down quickly on the Sands. She held her foot, which was bleeding slightly. She laughed at her own clumsiness, but the tears had started streaming down her cheeks.
{{What for you cry?}}
Illaea turned her head ever so slightly to find them level with swirling rainbow orbs. She felt her entire body shudder as another mind enveloped hers. If she had been able, she would be standing and running around the Sands screaming out that she, Illaea, had finally Impressed.
{{Illaea? Would food make you quit crying? Please stop!}} The tiny voice in her mind was getting near frantic, and Illaea crooned to the poor dear to comfort it.
::Don't worry about me, Pantath. Food would, however, help you. I'll feed you and get this taken care of at the same time.:: She suddenly felt strong hands around her, and was surprised to see her father helping her up. She stood nimbly on her feet, smiling at I'lan and he beamed down at his daughter.

The new weyrling leaned back against the wall, sitting on her bed while she shoveled food into her new dragons mouth. Pantath ate hungrily, having to be reminded often to stop and chew before swallowing.
"He's lovely, Illaea." I'lan sat down on the edge of the bed next to his daughter, looking down at Pantath.
"Sh..." Illaea stopped herself, blinking. She had been so enthralled, so busy with everything. Getting her foot bandaged while trying to feed Pantath at the same time. Then oiling the hide in the dark barracks while her mother fussed over her foot some more. Then feeding Pantath again after most of the other girls had gone out to the Hatching Feast. She had been about to call Pantath a 'she' before it dawned on her.
Pantath was brown. A dashing, dazzling brown so close to a bronze it was stunning. He was beautiful, more beautiful than any green, gold, bronze, or blue could ever be. And he, yes he, was hers. "He is handsome, isn't he."
"What is his name."
She turned to her brownrider father, a smile on her thin lips as her tan eyes sparkled.
"His name is Pantath, father. Pantath."
