J'mini and Kelienth's weyr
You walk into the next weyr along the way, only to find it seemingly empty. You walk past the dragon's room on the left, and continue into the living caverns on the right. As soon as you walk in, a head lifts from the bed in the corner of the room. A large canine climbs off of the bed and runs over to stand before you.
The dog regards you for a moment. It sniffs at you carefully, then backs up a bit. After looking at you for another minute, it creeps back up to you. After a bit of whimpering and nudging, you finally get the idea and reach down to scratch the dog on the head. It growls playfully at you. It rears up, jumping back and forth.
"He's wants you to chase him." You spin around to see a boy walk in behind you. His mousey brown hair is flying in all directions as he grins at you. He looks rather young, but his dark black eyes shine intelligently. "His name is Bandit."
The dog rushes by you, running up to jump onto his master. The young man rubbed the dog's ears before pushing him away. A head appears through the doorway, and a pair of brown eyes watch you. The dragon takes a deep breath, sniffing at you, and then his head disappears again.
"Sorry I wasn't here when you came in. I was taking Kelienth hunting." He trails off, grinning sheepishly at you.
He steps past you, Kelienth wuffling back in his ledge-room. He leads you farther into the room. A long bed sits in one corner, and a rough desk sits in one corner with a shielded glow basket above it. There are a few more glow baskets lining the wall, but they are closed because of the light coming in through the large doorway to the weyr. There is a single painting in the room, one of a dolphin jumping out of the ocean, and it rests just above the bed.
"That's Darby. He's my father's dolphin bond. Both my father and mother are Master Dolphineers. I came here a while back with my sister, Miri, who's also a weyrling now. She couldn't stand it at Bay Hold, and I wanted to see the world. So... we ended up here!" He grins broadly, pulling out a chair for you at the small table in the middle of the room.
"I got Bandit a while back, when I was about ten or so. He's been my best friend ever since. For some odd reason, I'm scared stiff of firelizards. Probably because of Miri's brown Daenar." He shivered slightly, then cast you another grin. Bandit curls up beneath the desk, still eyeing you for any chance to play.
"I Impressed Keli at Sonria Wey a while backr. He was a darling, and I'm very glad I was picked by him. I don't think I could have stood cooking and cleaning in the Lower Caverns anymore." His grin must be contagious, because you are mimicing it as he sits down across from you.
The two of you sit and talk for a while. He remarks that his farther's name is Wiren, and his mother's name is Rima. He got his name by an unfortunate mishap. His mother wanted to name him Jem, and his father wanted to name him Winar. Somehow they came to the odd conclusion of Jemini. "And now it's J'mini because I Impressed. How odd sounding can you get! Probably the only worse name I can think of is S'si." You grin, wondering how it is everyone seems to know this Sosi the Wher-Keeper.
"Well..." J'mini looks around his room, as if trying to pull a topic out of thin air. "I know! Come see my supply room." He quickly jumps to his feet, and it seems for a minute as he might trip over his long legs but instead he moves quickly to a side door. Throwing it open it reveals an array of equipment. From a riding jacket to oil.
You turn around to see that Jemini is no longer with you. You run out of the weyr, making sure to look in the dragon's room this time. There is no sign of either him or Bandit anywhere. As you walk out of the room, you spy the tall boy chasing the dog. Bandit is following a small brown firelizard, barking furiously at it. Kelienth glides above their heads, an odd sound very close to barking comes from his mouth.
"Sorry! I'll be sure to talk to you again sometime! Maybe you can stop by some other time. Who knows, maybe Kelienth will catch a green some day! Shard it Bandit quit that!" The last statement is obviously not directed to you as Bandit goes charging into the Weyr Lake head on.
You laugh, walking away from the weyr and onto the next. J'mini is quite an odd boy, and quite deserving of such an odd but handsome dragon, and his dog seems to fit the trio perfectly. It's a good thing he Impressed, though whether he Impressed a large dog or a dragon is starting to confuse you. Grinning, you walk on.
