Kayan's Impression Story
Kayan sat in the Weyr kitchen, carefully skinning the tubers that would make up that evenings meal. They were also keeping extra food on hand for the Hatching that was iminent any day now. Kayan had applied as a Candidate and been excepted. She couldn't leave her friends alone in the kitchens though, so she agreed to go to Candidate classes during the day and work in the kitchens during the evening.
The tubers smelled strongly of a vinegarish scent. She feared she would never get it out from under her fingernails. She wiped her hands absentlyon her cooking apron and picked back up the slicer. Just before the sharp metal met the tuber, the wall beside her began to vibrate in an odd way. Placing one ear to the wall she suddenly realized exactly what the sound was. The dragons! The eggs! The Hatching!
Tearing off her apron as she went, she made a mad dash for the Candidate barracks and ran in just as everyone else was running out. Throwing off her clothes and pulling the white tunic over her head, she rushed out of the room without her sandals.
Shard it! The Sands really were as hot as all had said. As soon as she reached the Grounds she realized that sandals were definitely not something she wanted to leave without. She ran as quickly as one can when one must walk like a duck, and stood at the end of the line of Candidates doing a sorted type of dance.
The Hatching went by in a blur. Kayan regretted getting there late. It was only then that she realized that she was standing among the regular Candidates instead of the Queen Candidates which she was a part of. She heard murmurs from the far end of the Sands and knew for certain she had missed the Hatching of the Queen egg. Saddened and disheartened she bgan her way quickly towards the semi-circle of girls when she stopped dead in her tracks.
Standing just outside the rim of Queen Candidates was a boy. His wide blue eyes were focused on the small golden lump attached to his right leg. The gold Queen had gotten her teeth sunk into his tunic and wasn't planning on letting him go. Kayan, recognizing her half-brother, all but walked up and hit him upside the head.
"Jasimo! You sharding dimglow! You're not supposed to Impress the Queen! That's a girl's job!" She walked up beside him, reaching out a hand to grab his arm.
As she did, the little Queen looked up at her with a snarl. The snarling faded quickly though as the two made eye contact. Kayan fell down to her knees, lost in the clouds of rainbow. ::Zreinth... you're beautiful.::
{{You are, too, my Impressed. I do wish you would feed me though. This boy's clothes taste terrible!}} Kayan walked her new Queen off the Sands proudly that day.
{{And that, is Kayan's and my Story. *sniffle*}}
