Liara and Ceriath's weyr
(and a lot of old gossip.. run for your life!)
"J'mini? Where are you going? I wasn't done talking to you yet!" You walk up to the entrance of a smaller weyr only to almost collide with a young man walking out. His face is rather red, and you recognize him as Brownrider J'mini. He gives you a slight grin and hurries past.
A few moments later a girl walks out of the weyr with a frown. Seeing you, her face lightens immediately as she smiles. "Why hello there! You have to be a visitor, because I've surely never seen you around before. Either that or you're a hermit." You start to back away at the insult, but her grin doesn't seem mean, but naive rather. "Well... are you going to come in? It just wouldn't do for me to get to know the newest occupant of the weyr if I didn't offer you something, now would it?" She takes your hand in her tiny one and leads you into the weyr.
"This is Ceriath, my little darling." She smiles as she leads you in, cooing at a green dragon that's napping lazily on the large stone couch. "She's stopped growing, but she still sleeps her days away when she gets the chance. 'Specially now that I don't have so many chores to do to bug her with." The dragon cavern is bigger than it seemed outside, and the girl drags you in further. She parts the bright red curtain to reveal a simple living cavern.
She runs over and jumps on the bed, pointing the only chair in the room for you to sit in. The bed it simple, with thick covers now that the cold weather has set in. She doesn't have much to keep out the cold of the stone, only a few worn wall coverings with very simple designs woven into them. She has a single table, which sits by the chair you are sitting on. There is a small cabinet to the side of her bed, with such large swinging doors that it must house her tiny wardrobe. She has assorted equipment laying around the weyr, some seeming even older than the sleeping Ceriath.
"Well, let's start of with my introduction, since you don't seem inclined to talk much." You don't mention that you were about to start, and instead let her continue since she seems so happy to be able to talk. "My name is Liara, and I'm a Greenrider here. My brother, Ar'zec, is the first bronzerider to have Impressed outside Asura Weyr, he's also the Weyrleader Second." She smiles proudly. "My father, Z'caris, is a brownrider, and my mother, Arita, is a greenrider. Ar'zec got a mix of their names, and Mum picked my name because it sounded pretty. It's rather boring to me. I would have rather had Jael's name. Have you met her? She's kinda a tomboy, her mom was the old Weyrwoman."
She crosses her legs in front of her, and before you know it she starts rattling off the gossip of the Weyr. "That was J'mini who left. I was trying to make him confess to liking Nire, she's a Candidate who used to be a Dragonhealer. He won't admit it, thought, until she Impresses. If she gets a gold he's outta luck, being a brownrider and all, but if she Impresses a green he'll be happier than a stuffed bronze!"
She takes a short breath, then continues with what seems like never-lasting energy. "I saw Miri giving Kayan swimming lessons yesterday. Can you believe it? Our Weyrwoman can't swim! And I also heard that Auraniath is getting proddy. The poor bronze who catches her will have a time with his rider! Bryna doesn't have the most pleasant of attitudes, ya know. Rixae and Arasta finally met. Those two ditzes are so alike I can't tell them apart 'cept for Rixae's white hair. It's so pretty, not like my lousy locks." She holds up a handful of her tangled hair, gazing at the split ends as she talks.
"Dalylla seems to be getting on rather well. She's started taking classes from her father in her spare time again, you know, with her being a Journeywoman Gemcrafter before she Impressed and all. But L'remi, oh dear. I don't see how he stays sane! He has to take care of that bronze lump of his, mind Master Sirry, and keep up his Weyr Dragonhealer reports all at the same time! Poor dear. Not like R'nyx, all that boy does is paint, complain, and paint. I tried to talk to him when he and Rixae first got here, nearly bit my head off!" She paused, wrinkling her tiny nose as her hazel eyes stared at a far off spot before she snapped back to attention.
"J'simo is keeping the weyrlings pretty well under control. Have you met T'thys yet? What a shard he is! Never seen anyone with such a sour disposition. And poor Yarrow, having to put up with him in classes. She's so weak, one day she's going to collapse and that'll be the end of her!" She frowned, biting her lower lip. She smiled slightly. "But enough about her, she's actually doing pretty good now that she's out of classes, the healers say. Now A'rynn, that boy is out there. He's Arasta's brother, and he's actually kinda sweet for an old sailors kid. So's B'roque, though he's a bit on the chubby side if you ask me." She grinned, and you just know notice how truly skinny she is. Her cream-colored sleeve-less shirt almost hangs off her bones as she grins at you. "Now Illaea, there's a character. The only brownriding female in the Weyr! She's a good girl though, a friend of mine." She grins with pride.
"But Zurinthe, there's a story for ya. What a mouth that boy has! You can tell he's farmerbred." She gives you a wink, showing she means no ill harm. "M'kat is a bit sullen, but F'land is such a dear child! You should see how much energy that lil' guy has during classes!" You hold in a yawn, now marvelling at Liara's energy. She finally seems at the end of her ramblings, however, and you stop her. She smiles at you, and finally inquires what she originally wanted to know- who you were. She frowns when you mention you're only visiting. "Oh! I'm sorry! I gave you that long speel for nothing, then, eh?" You reply that it's nice to know a bit more about the inhabitants of the Weyr, and she grins.
"Glad to be of service! You be sure to come back when I finally get out of these classes, ya hear? Maybe then I'll have a bit more to tell you about myself, and if I don't I'm sure I'll have some news for you from around the Weyr." She grins again, then leads you back to the entrance of the weyr. A small green firelizard swoops in as you walk out. Liara smiles. "Don't mind 'er. That's Gossip, my little greeny girl. She's probably been out and about spooking the cooks and bothering Ar'zec. Be sure to stop in again!" She waves to you as she disappears behind the red curtain, obviously anxious to hear from her 'lizard, who is so aptly named for such a girl.
