~In the Dining Cavern...~
J'mini sat down at one of the less occupied tables. R'nyx sat across from him, and the bluerider looked up as J'mini sat. The two had Impressed at the same clutch, and despite R'nyx's coldness to most people, the warm-hearted J'mini had won him over.
"Drawing something new, are you?" Jem leaned across the table, eyeing the sketch pad that R'nyx had set on his lap. There was a young boy in the picture, perhaps sixteen or so. Right around their age. "Who's he?"
"My cousin, Gillamey." He pointed across the Cavern at another sparcely occupied table. The reason was because of a young woman sitting with one of her legs propped up on a chair. It was wrapped heavily, and she had a cruches leaning against the same chair. Gillamey sat next to her, a smile on his face despite the frown on hers.
"Who's the girl with him?" He turned back to the bluerider, a curious glint in his eyes.
{{Oooohhh... you're getting good at this.}}
[[I can tell when you like someone.]]
{{Hmph! How do you know I wasn't thinking about him?}}
[[You were, both of them.]]
{{Ooohhh... you really *are* getting better at this.}}
R'nyx looked over, a look of concentration on his face. "Some girl, I can't remember her name. She fell in some pit, so Gill sent his flits to come fetch me, nearly ran poor Loopie through a stone wall." He grinned, looking over at his small gold firelizard fondly. "Made quite a commotion. Had a Master Smith out there a few days later, declared it some kind of new mine or something."
"Interesting..." J'mini looked over at the pair of them again, then stood up from the table. "If you'll pardon me, R'nyx, I've got something I need to do." He smiled at the bluerider.
R'nyx simply grunted something and went back to drawing.
~Across the Dining Cavern...~
"Oh come on, Maj! You can't keep acting like this." Gill stared at her across the table, the smile he had been wearing a few minutes before gone. He looked at his unhappy companion.
Majourn turned her head towards him, a frown on her face. "Why not?" Her voice held the stubborn tone of a child, but the look in her eyes made it clear she wasn't acting like one.
"It... it's like you're blaming the Weyr for taking Jevi away! It's not their fault she ran from that place, and if you could walk you'd probably do the same thing!" He bit his lower lip as she turned to glare at him again, her light blue eyes intense.
"Don't even start that again, Gill! I swear, if you say one more word I'm going to knock you over the head with this!" She lifted up one of the crutches and waved it at him warningly. However, her gesture was only half-hearted and she set it back down and sighed lightly, a grin on her face. "Besides, from what they say I'll have to hobble away instead of run. Then again, I can always throw you in Ma's path..." She grinned across the table at him, their exchange of harsh words seemingly forgotten.
"Well, you two don't seem to stay mad at each other for long." Surprising both of them, a young man sat down at the only empty chair at their small table. He was grinning broadly, a look that disappeared as soon as he got a curious look from Gill and a glare from Majourn. "Pardon my interruption, I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I'm J'mini." He held his hand out to Majourn. When she only stared at it cooly for a moment, he offered it to Gill who shook it with a smile.
"I'm Gillamey, and this is Majourn. What can we help you with, brownrider?" Gillamey grinned at J'mini, seeing as it was now his turn to be surprised. The young man motioned over to where R'nyx was now still sitting alone. "R'nyx told me about you."
J'mini grinned, shaking his head. Family ties never failed to surprise him. "Well, I came over to chat with the pair of you. Kelienth's outside, and he was wondering if he could meet you two after evening meal. That is, if you're not up to anything..." He grinned over at Majourn, but her look remained neutral.
"Really?" Gillamey's tone was uncommonly eager, if not excited. His dark eyes had widened, and he looked over at Majourn. She stared back at him with an odd look on her face, confused as to why he suddenly seemed so hyper. "We'd love to meet him!"
"Wonderful!" J'mini smiled broadly, clapping Gill on the back. He turned back to Majourn, and frowned when he didn't see the same enthusiasm in her. "Is there something wrong?"
"Is there anything else we can help you with?" She seemed to finally be cooling down, her anger at the interrupting and eavesdropping subsided lightly.
J'mini watched her with a look of pure and simple amazement. "Well... it's just that... I mean. I'm sure your leg'll hear in plenty of time. Besides, Kelienth said you two stood out like a pair of dragons among flits!" He smiled, enjoying his brown's analogy.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Majourn sat up, lowering her leg to the floor. She had no idea how to take that phrase, having never heard it before in her life. She hadn't grown up around dragonriders, and while she'd learned some of the more colorful oaths from her mother, she'd never quite understood some of their other sayings.
Her question, however, sent Gillamey into a fit of laughter that nearly knocked him out of his seat. "By the first shell, Majourn!" Another phrase she never did quite get. "Does the man have to spell it out for you?"
Majourn sputtered, obviously not happy with this teasing. She narrowed her eyebrows, uncrossing her hands and setting them on the table. J'mini could tell she was antsy, and smiled reassuringly at her. "It means, dear lady... that you've been Searched."
The look of disbelief on Majourn's face sent Gill into another round of chuckles, while the sudden look of relief sent him into gales of laughter. She wouldn't have to be a Lady Captain after all! Gillamey continued to laugh, doubling over in his chair. Because he was laughing so hard, and perhaps with a little help from a well placed foot, Gillamey's chair went toppling backwards... him with it.
